Our poem this week was "Sticky Situation". We made movements to our poem, completed some word sorts, and completed a poetry page.
For word work, we sorted N or H, M or N, R or M, L or R, and I or L.
Our big book was "City ABC's". This book was about students finding things in the city that start with each letter of the alphabet.
For writing, we drew a nail, a monkey, a rhino, a lion, and an iguana. These match with our word work for each day and the students practice following directions, writing uppercase letters (beginning sounds), and copying of the word.
We started phonics this week! We have been busy looking at rhymes, beginning sounds, ending sounds, putting sounds together, and taking sounds apart. This will help your child be a great reader and writer.
Our read aloud was "Recess Queen". We practiced making predictions, retelling important events, studying our main character, making inferences, telling our favorite part, and answering comprehension questions.
For math, we have been working on making 5. I flash 5-frames at the students and they have to quickly catch how many dots are shown. They practiced rebuilding on our own 5-frame with unifix cubes and showing me with their hands.
For handwriting, we practiced letter F and letter E.
I started introducing word wall words. These are words that are most common in reading and writing or they are words that are hard to sound out. This week we learned "can" and "I".
In guidance, we learned all about listening. Eyes watching, ears listening, voices quiet, and bodies calm. We call this whole body listening.
We visited the library for the first time! Each week the students will get to check out 1 book. They should bring it back on Friday's so they are able to check out a new book.
