February 24-28

Our new word wall words were "your" and "if".

Our poem was "A Loose Tooth". We made moments to our poem, glued it in our poetry notebook, recorded it for seesaw, and completed a poetry page.

For word work we looked at words that had AKE in them. We colored the AKE pattern, wrote AKE words, and colored words with AKE or just A.

Our big book was "Ten Big Elephants". In this book, the Elephants were really afraid of tiny animals and we thought that was really funny.

Our read aloud was "Just Going to the Dentist". We practiced predicting, retelling our main events, making connections, making inferences, writing our opinion, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we finished up our narrative writing unit! They have been doing so well with sequencing their stories and using words like "first, then, next, and last".

For guidance, we talked about handling being knocked down.

For math, we have been practicing making 5, writing equations, writing numbers, and adding.

For handwriting, we practiced lowercase "y" and "j".

February 17-21

Our new word wall words were "come" and "went".

Our poem was "Money Money". We learned all about coins and how much they are worth.

Our big book was "Ten in the Bed".  Lots of the students already knew the story (10 Monkey's Jumping on the Bed) but they enjoyed some of the differences.

For word work we sorted AI and short A words.

For our read aloud we read, "Duck for President". We worked on problem and solution, making connections, making inferences, writing our opinions, and comprehension questions.

For writing, we continued to work on narrative writing. The students are enjoying writing stories that are real or stories that are made up.

In math, we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. At the end of the week, we even tried to draw 2D and 3D shapes.

For handwriting, we worked on lowercase l and k.

February 10-14

Our new word wall words were "got" and "then".

Our poem was "Monster Love". We thought the poem was very funny! We made movements to our poem, glued the poem into our poetry notebooks, and posted it on seesaw!

For word work, we talked about tricky y and sorted some A vs. AY words.

Our big book was "The Log". We learned all about bugs that live in or on tree logs and the other animals that might come and eat them.

For read aloud we read "Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink". We practiced predicting, problem and solution, making connections, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we are continuing to work on narrative stories and using the words first, then, next, and last in our writing.

For math, we have been focusing on different shapes. We talked about a circle and sphere and compared and contrasted them. We also talked about a cylinder.

For handwriting, we focused on letter i and letter e.

This week was also Valentine's Day! Thank you to all the parents who helped organize the valentine's day treats and the families that sent in food or drinks so we could celebrate!

Happy Valentine's Day!

101 Day

We had such a blast celebrating 101 day!!

We watched "101 Dalamations", wrote to 101 (or got really close), built using 101 different things, made a 101 day mix snack, and made a project!
