March 14-18

This week in kindergarten!

Our poem this week was Luck of the Irish. We made movements, glued it into our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded it on seesaw!

Our read aloud was Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato. We practiced making predictions, retelling important parts, making connections, making inferences, and answering questions.

We finished up our All About writing unit this week with our writing assessment. They all wrote an All About book on elephants. These books will be used as their quarter 3 writing grade and will be sent home at the end of the year.

In math, we finished up unit 6 and moved on to unit 7. In unit 7 your child will explore weight and capacity, count groups of objects by 10's and 1's to build an understanding of place value, compare numbers to determine which number is more than, less than, or equal to another number, and solve addition and subtraction equations and story problems within 10.

Happy Spring Break!

March 7-11

This week in Kindergarten!

This week is all about Dinosaurs!

Our poem was Dino Stomp. We made movements to our poem, glued it into our poetry notebook, and recorded it for seesaw.

This week for read aloud we talked about what we already knew about Dinosaurs. Then we read about Dinosaurs in general, Paleontologists, Triceratops, T-Rexes, Stegosauruses, and Velociraptors. We also did a herbivore vs. carnivore fact sort.

In writing, we are continuing our All About writing unit. They are having so much fun researching their own animals. Soon we will finish up our unit and have a writing party before Spring Break.

For math, we started unit 6. In this unit your child will identify, name, and describe objects in the environment using the names of shapes, explore the difference between 2D and 3D shapes, build 3D shapes, understand the numbers from 11-20 as "10 and some more", and solve number combinations within 10.

In guidance, we learned about managing anger. We learned that anger is a natural feeling but hurtful behaviors are not okay. We learned that our bodies help us recognize when we are anger. Learning to relax can help us calm down.

On Monday, we went outside to tap our very own maple tree! We broke the students into groups of 4 and set them out to find a maple tree. Once they all found a maple tree, Mrs. Hartling and I picked one tree to tap. They all helped drill the hole and wished our tree luck.

February 28-March 4

This week in Kindergarten!

Our poem this week was Your Body. We made movements to our poem, glued it into our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded it for seesaw.

Our read aloud was The Three Billy Goats Fluff. We practiced telling our opinion, retelling important parts, making connections, making inferences, comparing and contrasting, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we are continuing our All About unit. This week, almost all the students got to go on PebbleGo and research their own animals. We are learning a lot!

For math, we started unit 6. In this unit your child will identify, name, and describe objects in the environment using the names of shapes, explore the difference between 2D and 3D shapes, build 3D shapes, understand the numbers from 11-20 as "10 and some more", and solve number combinations within 10.

For guidance, we talked about handling waiting. We learned that the calming down strategies can help manage feeling excited or impatient while waiting. We learned to find quiet things to do that won't distract others also helps you wait.
