February 21-25

This week in Kindergarten!

Our poem this week was Money Money. We made movements, glued the poem into our poetry notebooks, completed a poetry page, and recorded the poem for seesaw.

Our read aloud was The Gruffalo. We practiced visualizing, retelling, making inferences, studying our main character, telling our favorite part, and answering questions.

In writing, they got their nonfiction webs that they completed for homework and started to turn them into an All About book. Soon, they will be researching animals all on their own!

For math, we started unit 6. In this unit your child will identify, name, and describe objects in the environment using the names of shapes, explore the difference between 2D and 3D shapes, build 3D shapes, understand the numbers from 11-20 as "10 and some more", and solve number combinations within 10.

In guidance, we talked about calming down strong feelings. We talked about what a strong feeling was, how to recognize a strong feeling, how to take belly breathes, and other ways we can calm down.

This week we did a 5 day STEM curriculum called Rokenbok. It is like big legos and each day they have a challenge they need to plan, build, and solve. They loved Rokenbok's!

February 14-18

This week in Kindergarten!

We started out our week with our Valentine's Day celebration, Kinder Cardiology. If you would like to read and see about our special day; check out my Kinder Cardiology blog post!

Our poem this week was Monster Love. We made movements to our poem, glued our poem in our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded our poem for seesaw.

Our read aloud was Love Monster. We worked on predicting, retelling, inferring, and answering questions.

For writing, we finished another All About book together about a stegosaurus. Next week, they will start their own all about books based on the writing homework they did.

For math, we started unit 6. In this unit your child will identify, name, and describe objects in the environment using the names of shapes, explore the difference between 2D and 3D shapes, build 3D shapes, understand the numbers from 11-20 as "10 and some more", and solve number combinations within 10.

Kinder Cardiology

Kinder Cardiology was such a fun day!

We jumped right into our centers. They were stitching matching color hearts and color words back together, putting bandages on broken hearts to make equations, using stethoscopes to help count syllables in words, and playing operation.

They all got their own Thorson Cardiology doctor badge and a surgeon cap to wear.

In the afternoon, we graphed candy hearts, played Valentine's Day bingo, and decorated cookies.
