April 22-26

Our poem this week was "Stung". We made movements to our poem, completed an S/ST sorting activity, and completed an ending sound sort.

Our big book was "Jump & Hop". We read all sorts of poems about movements and practiced rhyming.

"Hey, Little Ant" was our read aloud. We worked on visualizing, comparing and contrasting, making inferences, looking for the author's purpose, telling our opinion, and answering comprehension questions.

For word work, we sorted OO/OA words together and individually, we made OO words, colored the OO pattern in words, and colored pictures on rather they have OO or OA.

For writing, we started a short poetry unit. We wrote "I am" books or "I like" books. We also wrote a "SPRING" poem together as a class.

In math, we practiced some of our math skills like counting to 100, counting by 10's, looking at the 100 grid, and practicing tens and ones.

For science, we talked about night and day and how they are similar and different. We also started talking about the moon.

Our dramatic play center has transformed into a vet clinic! We voted on calling our clinic "Happy Tails Vet Clinic". The students are allowed to use their stuffed animals in this center. I also got a cute dog for that center which we named "Kuckie".

Our poem this week was "Recycle". We made movements to our poem, completed a short/long E sort, completed a sentence sort, and looked for rhyming words.

Our big book this week was "Carrots". We learned about planting and growing carrots and practiced reading different parts.

Our read aloud this week was, "The Easter Bunny's Assistant". We practiced making predictions, retelling important parts, making connections, studying characters, and writing why we would make a great assistant for the Easter Bunny. We also answered comprehension questions.

For word work, we talked about EW and OW words. We sorted words, made EW words, and colored the EW pattern in words.

Our new word wall words were: were and their. All word wall words have been introduced! Keep practicing them at home!

For writing, we finished up opinion writing. The students loved opinion writing and the books they were making were wonderful! We will be started a short poetry unit when we get back from break.

For math, we finished up unit 6 and practiced some of our math skills like tens and ones, counting, adding, and story problems.

For science, we learned about lightning, tornadoes, rain, and rainbows.

Happy Spring Break!
