Our poem this week was, "Plant Song". We made movements to our poem, completed a SP/SM/SK sort, completed and EE, EA, or E sort, talked about germination, and found rhyming words.
Our big book was, "The Big Race". We discussed how our big book was a fable and how fables contain a message. The message in "The Big Race" was slow and steady wins the race.
Our read aloud was, "Piggie Pie". We made inferences, retold the events in our story, practiced visualizing, made connections, and answered comprehension questions.
For word work, we sorted UE or U words, made UE words, colored the UE pattern in words, and colored pictures.
For writing, we continued to work on opinion writing. The students got to pick their writing topic this week and it was either:
Tell how you feel about worms
or
Tell how you feel about rain
For math, we played "Shake Shake Shake". The students had a certain amount of math chips in their cup and they would shake them up and then dump them out. They would write and add yellow chips + red chips = all chips. We also worked on subtracting. We are finishing our unit 6 and moving to unit 7 which has a focus on story problems.
For guidance, Mrs. Kikkert came to talk to us about the never never rules.
In science, we talked about shadows and how to protect yourself from the sun's rays.
We also completed a STEM activity where the students built forts to protect their pigs from the evil Gritch who wanted to eat them!
Our new word wall words were of and for. We only have one more week of word wall words and then they are all finished for the year!
Oscar was our special person of the week. We enjoyed learning more about Oscar and having his mom come read to us!
