KINDER CARDIOLOGY DAY

101 DAY

January 24-28

This week in Kindergarten!

Our poem this week was My New Friend. We made movements to our poem, glued it in our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded it for seesaw.

Our read aloud was Snowman at Night. We practiced visualizing, sorting details in the text and details not in the text, making connections, making inferences, stating our opinion, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we are finishing up our How To writing unit. The students picked their best book to share to the class and we celebrated all their hard work! Next we will move to All About books where they can write books All About animals of their choice.

For math, we are in unit 4. In this unit your child will count by 2's to 20, explore even numbers as doubles, add 1 and subtract 1 to numbers from 1 to 10, compare and order numbers from 1 to 10, and write equations to show sums up to 5.

For guidance we learned about caring and helping. We talked about ways to show we care, helping someone when needed, and showing empathy.

For science, we are starting our Animal Science Unit. We are learning about animal homes and how animals are alike and different. We also did a short animal study on Polar Bears.

On Tuesday, we did not go to library. Instead we went to our Thorson Maker Space and completed a STEM challenge. The students had a sheet of tin foil, tape, 2 straws, 2 popsicle sticks, a notecard, and a plastic ziplock bag. They were asked to create an ice burg for their penguin to sit on. Some of them came up with such creative ideas!

Winter Wonderland Day

We kicked off the Thorson Olympics with a Kinder Winter Wonderland Day!

We started our day by watching the Thorson Olympic Opening Ceremony and picking our team name.

Then the students did different winter themed centers. They visited the fishing hole where they ice fished for equations, they played Don't Break the Ice, visited the free snow stand and made CVC words, visited tundra lanes to do some tree bowling, and warmed up in the cabin with hot chocolate sight word scramble.

After a chilly recess, we had some warm hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, chocolate chips. candy cane bits, and whipped cream! Yummy!
