October 8-12

This week we went to the pumpkin farm! I hope you enjoyed the pictures and I hope everyone had lots of fun!

Our poem this week was "Itsy Bitsy Spider". We made movements to our poem, sorted words by their ending sound, and sorted words by syllables.

For read aloud, we read "Pumpkin Jack". We worked on visualizing, retelling, making connections, learning the life cycle of a pumpkin, making inferences, and answering comprehension questions.

For word work we looked at V or K words, W or V words, Y or W words, Z or Y words. We sorted the words all together and then the students sorted them individually.

Our new word wall words this week were we, and, like, and the. We practiced spelling these words! Practice these words at home. They should be able to recognize these words within 5 seconds of seeing them!

For writing, we worked writing letters B and R. We also practiced zooming in on one family member or a small moment for their writing.

For math, we looked at the number 6 and 7. We looked at different ways to make 6 and 7. The students did this with cubes and used their math talk. They were asked to say ___ and ___ make 7. Try using this math talk at home for more practice.

For science, we did a pumpkin activity. We looked at our class pumpkin and described the outside of our pumpkin, estimated on the amount of lines on our pumpkin, estimated how many cubes high our pumpkin would be, and guessed on rather the pumpkin floats or sinks in water. We were shocked to find out it floats in water!

We also had our first Jaguar Jump Start on Friday morning. Students should wear Jaguar gear or blue to this. It will be every Friday morning. Some special friends go to silly string Mrs. Little.

We also started center time this week and practiced using our chart! This is a time in our day where the students do their own learning, teachers call it "managed independent learning". The students are broken into groups. They do various activities and then have the opportunity to post on Seesaw. Thank you for all the wonderful loves and comments on these posts! They love interacting with you on Seesaw.

Enjoy some pictures from our week. You may see words spelled incorrectly on our posters. We are starting to practice phonetic spelling, spelling based on the sounds you hear in the words. It is okay that they are spelled wrong. Encourage your student to use phonetic spelling at home!
