For shared reading, our poem was "Higglety Pigglety Pop". The students learned this poem, made movements to this poem, worked on rhyming words with this poem, did a beginning sound sort with this poem, and did an AT, OP, or AKE sort.
For read aloud, our book was "Knuffle Bunny". We worked on predicting and retelling. We learned about a setting and talked about settings in Knuffle Bunny. We made connections to our own lives and we talked about our favorite parts. We also ended the week with some comprehension questions.
For word work, we looked at AT or AP words. We sorted these words together and then they sorted them on their own. We colored different pictures and words based on if they were AT or AP words.
For handwriting, we worked on the letters M and N. We practiced making these using our chalkboards and our wet, dry, try technique.
For writing, we focused on telling the story of our field trip to the pumpkin farm. We are focusing on having a beginning, middle, and end to our stories.
In math, we looked at decomposing numbers 8, 9, and 10. The students did this with partners and math cubes. They used math talk (BLANK and BLANK make BLANK).
We also got to do our fun STEM activity this week. The students were given Q-tips and were asked to build with them. I had lots of different buildings and towers. They loved this activity!
Elise was our special person for the week! Thank you to Grandma Anderson for coming and reading to us!
