This week in kindergarten we learned a new poem. Our poem was called Fire and was all about firefighters. We learned the words, made movements, did a rhyming sort, did a color sort, and then visited some classrooms here at Thorson to share our poem.
In reading, our read aloud for the week was "Otis" by Loren Long. We read our book and worked on predicting, retelling important events, connecting to our main characters, making inferences, telling about our favorite parts, and answering comprehension questions.
For word work we looked at J or G words, E or J words, O or E words, and Q or O words. We talk about the sounds each letter makes, brainstorm words together, and then sorted our words. We sort our words together and then sometimes also sort our words individually.
For math, we worked on 3D shapes. We looked for some shapes around our room and we traced some faces of 3D shapes. We also talked about positional words and played a match it game with a partner. This week, we finished unit 1 for math and the students got to show me what they learned.
For writing, we worked on our perfect handwriting skills for the letters D and P. In writing, we worked on noticing details in our stories and using details in our own writing.
We also did our fun STEM project this week. The students did the popular bottle flip challenge but they filled their bottles with candy corn to see if the amount of candy corn in the bottle had an effect on the flip of the bottle. THEY LOVED THIS CHALLENGE!
Thank you to families who donated bottles or candy corn for this experiment.
We have been preparing for the Fun Run all week. Each day we have a team huddle with the other kindergarten classes. We talk about different characters traits and what they mean. We are excited for the Fun Run tomorrow.
