October 22-26
Our poem this week was "Five Little Bats". We learned this poem and made movements to the words. We did a sorting activity by the O sound in words, and we did a rhyming sort.
Our read aloud this week was "Bat Loves the Night". We worked on visualizing, making a KWL chart about bats, writing about what bats can, are, and have. We also labeled the parts of a bat and talked about a bat life cycle. The students learned a lot about bats today and were able to write if they were frightened by bats or not. We also worked on comprehension questions.
For word work we looked at AD or AN words. We sorted these words, colored pictures that were AD or AN words, and colored words that had AD or AN in them.
For handwriting, we worked on the letter H and the letter K. We wrote them on our chalkboards and completed our workbooks for each letter.
For writing, we are starting our narrative writing. The students were focusing on telling stories about themselves.
For math we looked at numbers and compared numbers to discover which was more and which was less. The students would roll a dice and build towers with cubes using that number. They would then compare that tower to their partners and say which had more and which had less. We also filled in a 10 frame using our dice and cubes. They worked on their math talk then too.
For science, we made a spider web with yarn! The students had a blast doing this activity! They love our STEM activities and we are very thankful for any families that donate to these!
Our special person this week was Nathan. Nathan brought in a rocket ship and helped us work on estimation with some cars. He also invited his mom in to read to us.
