January 7-11

Our poem this week was "My New Friend". We made movements to our poem, completed a syllable sort, completed an O or U sound sort, practiced rhyming, and learned about vowels.

Our big book for the week was "The Sleeping Giant".

Our read aloud was "The Mitten". We read our story, retold key events, made connections to our own lives, answered comprehension questions, and told our favorite part.

For work work, we looked at the O sound verses the OLD sound. We sorted our words, colored our word pattern, and colored pictures depending on if they had the O sound or the OLD sound.

For handwriting, we moved into our lowercase letters. We did lowercase C, O, S, V, and W.

We have started our informational writing unit. We did a planning sheet for bears and then wrote all about bears. We also did a planning sheet on dogs and wrote all about dogs.

For math, we started unit 4! We practiced putting numbers 1-10 in order. We played a more/less game. We played match me +/- 1. We also played mix it, fix it, and flip it with our number cards! This is when they mix up all their number cards, put them back in order, and flip them over to reveal the dot side. Then they repeat.

In science, we talked about the parts of a plant and compared plants to animals.

For guidance we learned about managing our frustration and what to do when we are frustrated.

Our special person of the week was Noelle! We loved learning more about Noelle and her family. A big THANK YOU to Mr. Kriegel for coming to read to us!

We also got to meet Iron and Officer Schiller. Office Schiller, a Mequon Police Officer, and his dog Iron answered a lot of our questions and taught us about being a police officer/dog. We learned that Iron is from Germany and flew here on a plane. We learned that Iron speaks German and we even got to practice some German commands!
