February 3-7

Our new word wall words were "from" and "all".

Our poem was "Groundhogs Day". We made movements to our poem, completed a poetry page, and recorded our poem for seesaw.

For word work, we learned all about silent E and sorted some silent E words.

Our big book was "Alligator Hide and Seek". At the end, we found baby alligator hiding in his mothers mouth!

Our read aloud was "Wooway for Wodney Wat". We practiced visualizing, retelling, making connections, studying our main character, writing opinions, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we started working on narrative writing. The students are writing stories, real or made up, using the words first, then, next, and last.

For math, we looked at shapes and different ways to describe or sort shapes.

For handwriting, we practiced g and u.

For guidance, we talked about handling waiting. The students learned that when they have a strong feeling they should stop, put their hands on their belly, name their feeling, and then take a big belly breath to help calm down.

Field Trip Skyward Issue

I have been getting some emails about the Betty Brinn Museum field trip and how it is not showing on some Skyward accounts.

I reached out to the office and they informed me that Skyward has been having some issues when they post field trips. They have already reached out to the district office to fix this issue.

If you are trying to pay for the Betty Brinn Museum and the fee is missing from your skyward account, please contact the office and they will be happy to take of that for you!

Thank you!

January 27-31

Our new word wall words this week were "said" and "that".

Our poem was "I'm a Little Penguin". We made movements to our poem, glued it in our poetry notebooks, and recorded it on seesaw!

For word work, we sorted OA and O words. We also learned that when two vowels go walking the first does the talking!

Our big book was "The Wheels on the Bike". It was very similar to "The Wheels on the Bus" but a little different and we thought it was very funny!

For our read aloud, we read "Tacky the Penguin". We practiced predicting, retelling, comparing and contrasting, making inferences, telling our favorite parts, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we finished our unit on informational books! The students each picked one book that they thought was really awesome and they shared it to the class.

For handwriting, we worked on lowercase A and D.

January 20th-24th

Our poem this week was "Mitten". We made movements to our poem and recording it for seesaw.

Our big book was "Coco Steps out". Our book is about a little bear that wakes up in the middle of winter and goes exploring! She finds herself in some trouble when she is ice skating and the ice breaks!

Our big book was "The Mitten". We worked on predicting, retelling, making connections, making inferences, telling their favorite part, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we started nonfiction books. The students are enjoying writing about lots of different animals.

For guidance, we talked about managing frustration.

For math, we have dived into 2D shapes. We have worked hard on naming shapes and sorting shapes by many different attributes.
