April 25-29

This week in Kindergarten!

On Monday, we had Baseball Day. Check out my blog post about Baseball to see what we did!

Our poem this week was Oviparous. We made movements, glued it into our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded it for seesaw.

Our read aloud was Chickens Aren't the Only Ones. We learned about all different animals that lay eggs. We talked about what we already knew about animals that lay eggs and what we learned, we sorted oviparous and viviparous animals, we talked about authors purpose, wrote our opinion, and answered comprehension questions.

For math, we started unit 8. In this unit, we will be practicing counting by 10's and 1's, reading, writing, ordering, and comparing numbers to 20, estimating, measuring, and comparing length, and solving addition and subtraction story problems within 10.

In writing, we started our opinion writing unit. They are having a blast writing books about their opinions on bats, pickles, cats, and dogs. Opinion writing is always a favorite!

In guidance, we learned about solving problems. We learned the different steps to solving a problem. First you have to say your problem, then think of a few solution, think of the consequences of those solution, and pick the best solution for you.

Baseball Day

Today was baseball day!

They had so much fun with our baseball centers. They sounded words out in the concession stand with the help of ketchup and mustard bottles, they kept score in What is the Score and determined which one was greater than, less than, or equal to, they headed to the dugout and solved equations to match players jersey numbers, and they went to the bullpen to sort the baseballs and make new words by replacing the beginning sound.

They enjoyed some baseball popcorn and later went outside to hit a baseball off the T.

Baseball day was so much fun!

April 4-8

This week in Kindergarten!

Our poem was The Plant Song. We made movements to our poem, glued it into our poetry notebooks, completed a poetry page, and recorded it for seesaw.

Our read aloud was Tops and Bottoms. We practiced making predictions, retelling, studying our main character, writing our opinion, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we started our opinion writing unit. The students will practice stating their opinion, writing two reasons to support their opinion, and then restating their opinion. We started by writing books about how we feel about worms.

In math, we explored weight and capacity, counted groups of objects by 10's and 1's to build an understanding of place value, compared numbers to determine which number is more than, less than, or equal to another number, and solved addition and subtraction equations and story problems within 10.

This week in Kindergarten!

Our poem this week was Spring Celebration. We made movements to our poem, glued it into our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded our poem for seesaw.

Our read aloud was Piggie Pie. We practiced making inferences, retelling important parts, visualizing, making connections, telling our opinion, and answering questions.

In writing, we worked on writing informational books on a topic that we knew a lot about. They wrote their on-demand informational books that will be passed on to their first grade teacher!

In math, we explored weight and capacity, counted groups of objects by 10's and 1's to build an understanding of place value, compared numbers to determine which number is more than, less than, or equal to another number, and solved addition and subtraction equations and story problems within 10.

In guidance we talked about disappointment and how to handle it. We learned to take some breathes, calm down, and do something else.
