December 20-23

This week in Kindergarten!

Our read aloud book this week was Gingerbread Baby. We watched a read aloud of the book, practiced predicting, and practiced retelling.

Our poem this week was Reindeer Snack. We made movements, glued it into our poetry notebook, recorded the poem for seesaw, and did a poetry page.

On Monday, we took our final narrative writing assessment. The students got 40 minutes to write a full book (a title page and a story across 4 pages) about gingerbread making. I can't wait to show you their writing at conferences!

On Tuesday, we did Christmas Day centers.

On Wednesday, we had Grinch Day!

These three days have been filled with Christmas cheer, lots of presents, lots of dancing and singing, and lots of fun.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

December 13-17

This week in Kindergarten!

Our poem was Little Ole Elf. We made movements, glued it in our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded it for seesaw.

Our read aloud was Gingerbread Girl. We practiced making predictions, retelling, comparing and contrasting to The Gingerbread Man, making inferences, telling our favorite part, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we talked about what makes our writing easy and hard to read. We also finished up our narrative writing unit! They worked so hard on writing their books and they should be so proud of all their hard work.

For math, we are in unit 4. In this unit your child will count by 2's to 20, explore even numbers as doubles, add 1 and subtract 1 to numbers from 1 to 10, compare and order numbers from 1 to 10, and write equations to show sums up to 5.

For guidance, we talked about identifying anger. What anger looks like like and how to solve our anger in a safe and healthy way.

Friday was our gingerbread house making day! We had so much fun. Thank you to everyone who sent in items to help make our gingerbread houses look so delicious!

December 6-9

This week in Kindergarten!

Our poem this week was Gingerbread Man. We made movements to our poem, glued it into our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded it for seesaw.

Our read aloud this week was Gingerbread Man. We worked on predicting, retelling, problem and solution, telling our favorite part, and answering comprehension questions.

In writing, we focused on vowel sounds and learning what makes our writing easy and hard to read. We are still writing personal narratives and the students are having so much fun telling their own stories.

In math, we finished unit 3. In this unit your child will count by 2's to 20, explore even numbers as doubles, add 1 and subtract 1 to numbers from 1 to 10, compare and order numbers from 1 to 10, and write equations to show sums up to 5.

We then started unit 4. In this unit your child will count forwards and backwards between 0 and 50, order and compare numbers from 1 to 10, solve addition and subtraction equations within 10, compare objects to see which is longer, shorter, or the same length, and add with pennies and nickels.

For writing, we started another narrative writing unit. The students started by writing what they did over Thanksgiving Break.

In guidance we are still talking about feelings. How to recognize them, how to cope with big feelings, and how to handle big feelings.
