January 3rd Might be Tough!

REMINDER

January 3rd, 2019 is pajama day at school! Everyone gets to wear pajamas to make our first day back to school, after this long break, a little bit easier!

Dramatic Play Area

Our dramatic play center is transforming from a Police Station to a Movie Theater!

We are looking for some things to help our theater come to life.

Empty candy boxes
Cash Register
Fake Money
Yellow colored cotton balls (to look like popcorn)

Thanks to Mrs. Rocky who donated some things to our Movie Theater! We are almost ready to get it up and going.

December 10-14

Our poem this week was "Little Ole Elf". We made movements to our poem, did a sorting activity with E sounds, did a sorting activity with blends such as SH, CH, and TH. We also talked about rhyming words and found some in our poem and thought of some rhyming words ourselves.

Our read aloud was "The Gingerbread Girl". We worked on predicting, retelling, comparing and contrasting "The Gingerbread Girl" to "The Gingerbread Man", answering comprehension questions, making inferences, and telling our favorite parts.

In word work, we sorted SL and GL words, colored words, and colored pictures.

Our big book was "A Big Bear in the Little Woods".

For handwriting, we worked on the letters S and A.

For writing, we talked more about our "How To" books. We brainstormed ideas together, worked on turning big (watermelon) ideas into small (seed) ideas, learning transition words and what they mean, and writing "How to Build a Snowman".

For math we finished unit 3. We worked on part/part whole and took our unit 3 assessment.

For science, we talked about living and non-living and the parts of a plant.

We also had our gingerbread house making this Friday! They were very excited and creative in making/decorating their houses.

Polar Express

Our read aloud next week is the Polar Express and I would love to show the movie during our rest time!

The movie is rated G.

If you have any reservations about letting your child watch "The Polar Express", please reach out to me!

December 3-7

Our poem this week was "Gingerbread Man". We learned the song, made movements to match the words, completed a rhyming sort, completed an ending sound sort, and answered comprehension questions.

Our big book this week was "In the Arctic". We read this book and talked about the story. We also learned more about some of the animals in the book.

"The Gingerbread Man" was our read aloud this week. We worked on visualizing, retelling, problem and solution, favorite part, and comprehension questions. We also read some other gingerbread man books and compared them.

For word work, we worked on WH and TH sounds. We sorted our pictures and words together and then individually. We also colored pictures depending on if they had the WH sound or the TH sound.

For handwriting, we worked on Q and G.

For writing, we moved into our new writing unit; How To books. We learned our "We Will Teach You" chant. We also made a party mix and wrote down our steps.

For math we are working on part/part whole. This week, the students worked together with their partners to fill in their part/part whole chart based off of story problems that I am reading to them.

For science, we looked at all different animals from our "In The Arctic" book. We learned more about Lemmings, Puffin's, and Seal's.

Avery was our special person of the week! We enjoyed learning more about Avery and we loved having his mom come to read to us on her birthday! Happy Birthday Mrs. Hopf!

Mr. and Mrs. Orcholski came into our classroom this week to teach us about Hanukkah. We were excited to eat the gelt coins and play with our new dreidels.
