October 3-6
This week in Kindergarten!
Our poem was Fire Fire! We made movements to our poem, glued it into our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded it for seesaw.
Our read aloud this week was Creepy Carrots. We practiced making predictions, retelling important parts, talking about cause & effect, making connections, telling our favorite part, and answering comprehension questions.
In math, we started unit 2. In unit 2 your child will: quickly recognize how many objects are in a collection (up to 5) without counting, compare sets using the words more and less, develop number sense with combinations that make 5 and then 10, count objects and match the quantity to the written numerals, and build with 2D shapes.
In writing, we wrote a pattern book titled Look At The Fall. We have been practicing the writing process or thinking, drawing, labeling, writing, and then adding details. We also took our narrative pre-test. They had a half hour to write a personal narrative. They were instructed to tell their story using pictures and to try to write some words. At the end of the unit, we will take a post-test to see your students progress.

This week in Kindergarten!
For poetry, we had a different nursery rhyme each day! We learned Humpty Dumpty, Hey Diddle Diddle, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Little Bo Peep, and Little Miss Muffet.
Our read aloud was Humpty Dumpty After The Fall: How Humpty Got Back Up Again. We practiced making predictions, retelling important parts, making connections to our main character, talking about cause & effect, talking about authors purpose, and answering comprehension questions.
For writing, we completed the letters N, M, H, K, and L in our handwriting books. They are working so hard on making their handwriting neat and easy to read. We also completed a directed drawing of a narwhal, monkey, hedgehog, kangaroo, and lion. They are learning how to draw using simple shapes. I hope you have been enjoying reading their sentences. We are working on writing mostly lowercase letters, using spaces, and hearing the sounds in words.
In math, your child is learning to count to 20, recognize and build sets to 10 using fingers, use five-frames and ten-frames, count, order, and compare numbers to 10, and write numerals to 10.
