Practice Tying Those Shoes!

Now that the cold weather and snow is here, students change their shoes multiple times a day. Continue to practice tying shoes with your child. It will help out TREMENDOUSLY! If your child could wear shoes that they can put on and off on his/her own, that would help me out so much! Take some time to practice tying shoes at home since we do not have time in our day to practice tying shoes.

Thank you!!

October 4-8

Our poem this week was "I'm a Little Scarecrow". We made movements to our poem and completed a poetry page.

Our big book was "My Little Rooster". We loved this big book and all the silly farm animal noises we got to make.

For word work we sorted ET and ED words.

Our read aloud was "Scaredy Squirrel". We talked about the setting, did a character study, talked about our character in the beginning versus the end, made inferences, and answered comprehension questions.

For writing, we are writing pattern books. The students are working hard on sounding words out and read their own writing.

For math, we talked about doubles and even and odd numbers.

For guidance we talked about identifying anger, what to do if you feel angry, and how to empathy for others.

Our new word wall words were TO and IS.

REMINDER:

Wednesday is our 50th day of Kindergarten!! The Kindergarten teachers will all be dressed up in poodle skirts and we hope to see the Kindergartners dressed up too!

If you volunteered to donate anything to our party, please send that it on Tuesday.

Winter Gear

We are expected to get 2-4 inches of snow in the early morning!

Even though there is no grass for the students to play on, they should still be coming to school in snow pants and boots. Sending a bag along that can hold snow pants and boots is always a good idea!

We want the students to be pretty independent when it comes to putting on their own winter gear. Please practice with your child so they can put on and take off their own gear.

The order that we tell the students to put on their winter gear is:

Snow pants
Boots
Jacket
Hat
Gloves

Scholastic Orders

Scholastic orders are coming home today!

I will submit the order on November 26th.

If you are ordering books as a Christmas present, please let me know! I can always hide them in their backpacks or hand them off to you after school.

Also, don't forget to check out the classroom wishlist!

Thank you!

October 28-31

Our poem this week was Fire, Fire! We made movements to our poem and completed a poetry page.

For word work we worked on OP and OG.

Our big book was "Scary Story". The ending in this book was a big surprise for all of us!

Our new word wall words were HE and GO.

For read aloud, we read lots of Piggie and Elephant books to get ready for our field trip!

For writing, we started pattern books. The students are practicing writing more and more on their own!

For math, we looked at patterns and started to introduce doubles.

For handwriting, we worked on X and Y.

Thank you to everyone who sent items in for the Halloween party and to any parents who came in and helped!

3rd Grade Buddies

Thank you to parents who volunteered to come in and help! If you could please come at 1:50 to help set up and help other students into their costumes, that would be great!
