October 4-8

 

This week in Kindergarten! 

Our poem this week was "Fire! Fire!". We made movements to our poem, glued it into our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded it for seesaw. 

Our read aloud this week was "Knuffle Bunny". We made predictions, retold important parts, talked about the setting, made connections, and answer comprehension questions. We also watched Knuffle Bunny Too and Knuffle Bunny Free. 

For writing, we are working really hard on making WOW! Pictures. Wow pictures are done in pencil first, then we go over our pencil marks with black marker, and then we use crayon and marker to color in. Wow pictures have lots of detail, very little white space, and take a lot of time. Take a look at some wow pictures. 

We are also continuing with pattern books. They got to write their own pattern book this week. Take a look at some examples. 

In math, we are practicing comparing different number configurations on 10-frames and making those different configurations with cubes and our own 10-frames. We are also practicing counting starting at 1 and starting at different numbers. This week, we also talked about patterns and the different kinds of patterns we can make.

This week in Kindergarten! 

Monday was apple day! Check out my blog post on apple day to learn about our apple activities and to see fun apple day pictures. 

For reading, we read "Chrysanthemum". We worked on predicting, retelling, comparing and contrasting (Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse), making connections, and answering comprehension questions. 

Our poem this week was "Apples". We made movements to our poem, glued it in our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page, and recorded ourselves singing the poem for seesaw. 

 

For writing, we finished our uppercase handwriting pages! We worked on C, O, Q, G, S, A, I, T, Z, and J. We then moved on to pattern books. During September, the Kindergartners were mostly copying my writing. We would talk about sounding out strategies, sight words, and basic writing skills like starting with a capital, writing mostly in lowercase, using spaces, and ending with a period. Now that we are in to pattern books, your child will be more independent in writing and will be able to write more on their own. Here are some writing examples from the week. 

In math, we have been working hard on learning our shapes and describing our shapes. We have also been working on recognizing and writing numbers to 5. We aim to have no backwards numbers.

For guidance, we learned about focusing our attention and using our attention and using our attenta-scopes to help us. 

Apple Day

 

Today was apple day! 

During center time, we completed some apple centers. They had to match uppercase and lowercase cards to make a full apple, they had to color an "I Like Apples" book, they had to search under alphabet cards to find the worms, and they had to sort apple pie syllables. 

We then had a delicious apple snack. They had apple slices, caramel dip, sprinkles, apple juice, and apple cider. Thank you to all the families who sent in items so we could enjoy this delicious snack! 

We also made an apple project where we labeled the different parts of an apple.
