September 26-30

This week in Kindergarten!

We started off our week with Apple Day! We learned all about apples, completed some Apple Day crafts, and had a special Apple Day snack.

Our poem this week was Apples. We made movements, glued it into our poetry notebook, and recorded our poem for seesaw.

Our read aloud was Chysanthemum. We practiced making predictions, retelling important parts, comparing and contrasting, talking about our main character, telling our opinion, and answering comprehension questions.

In writing, we started pattern books. The students finished the first pattern book I See Animals. They worked so hard on them and are so proud of all their hard work.

In math, your child is learning to count to 20, recognize and build sets to 10 using fingers, use five-frames and ten-frames, count, order, and compare numbers to 10, and write numerals to 10.

September 12-16

This week in Kindergarten!

For poetry, we had a different nursery rhyme each day! We learned Humpty Dumpty, Hey Diddle Diddle, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Little Bo Peep, and Little Miss Muffet.

Our read aloud was Humpty Dumpty After The Fall: How Humpty Got Back Up Again. We practiced making predictions, retelling important parts, making connections to our main character, talking about cause & effect, talking about authors purpose, and answering comprehension questions.

For writing, we completed the letters N, M, H, K, and L in our handwriting books. They are working so hard on making their handwriting neat and easy to read. We also completed a directed drawing of a narwhal, monkey, hedgehog, kangaroo, and lion. They are learning how to draw using simple shapes. I hope you have been enjoying reading their sentences. We are working on writing mostly lowercase letters, using spaces, and hearing the sounds in words.

In math, your child is learning to count to 20, recognize and build sets to 10 using fingers, use five-frames and ten-frames, count, order, and compare numbers to 10, and write numerals to 10.

September 6-9

We had a great start to the school year! This week in Kindergarten --

Our poem was Time for School. We made movements to our poem, glued it into our poetry notebook, completed a poetry page where we searched for letters and counted how many words were in the poem, and recorded it for seesaw. Check out your child's seesaw page to see our poem!

Our read aloud was The Recess Queen. We practiced making predictions, retelling important parts, studying our main character and talking about how she changed from the beginning to the end of the story, studying our other character and listing character traits, and doing a directed drawing of both Mean Jean and Katie Sue.

In writing, we are working on handwriting. We practiced the letters D, P, B and R and drew a dog, pig, bat, and rhino. We are working on writing simple sentences (the dog, the pig, the bat, the rhino) and using mostly lowercase letters. They are doing so well and I hope you have enjoyed seeing their writing come home!

In math, your child is learning to count to 20, recognize and build sets to 10 using fingers, use five-frames and ten-frames, count, order, and compare numbers to 10, and write numerals to 10.

In science, we are learning about day and night.
