Scholastic Book Fair

We visited the book fair today during library time! Lots of my friends picked out books that they would really really want!

You can visit the book fair before school, after school, or during conferences.

Make sure to check out Mrs. Kuck's wishlist to purchase some books for our classroom library!

Candy Day

The kids finally beat me in "beat the teacher"!

"Beat the teacher" is a behavior management game we play. I have a grid and the students have a grid. The students get circles for good behavior and I get circles when they are doing unexpected behaviors.

We talked about some rewards and voted for our favorites and the winner was...

CANDY DAY!

On Monday, November 12, please send your child to school with a candy bar! They will be allowed to eat this candy bar during the morning snack time!

Yankee Doodle

The Kindergartners learned “Yankee Doodle” during music class! They were excited to sing it at our Veteran’s Day assembly.

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is at Thorson Elementary School!

We will be visiting the book fair during our Library time on Monday. During this time, your child is welcome to look at the books and purchase any books.

You are also welcome to visit the book store after school!

I have pulled some books and placed them in my teacher bin. These are books that anybody can purchase if they would like to donate to our classroom library!

October 5-9

Our poem this week was "Out in the Garden". The students made movements to this poem, completed an ending sort, completed an E or A sort, found rhyming words, and found word wall words.

For reading, our read aloud was "Scaredy Squirrel". We talked about the characters and the setting, we compared and contrasted how scaredy squirrel changed from the beginning to the end, and we answered some comprehension questions.

Our big book for the week was "Miss Mary Mack". We talked about the story, learned the words, and made our own "Miss Mary Mack" story.

For word work, we looked at ED or ET words. We sorted the words, colored pictures by their spelling pattern, and colored words with our spelling pattern in it.

For handwriting, we worked on our letters V and W. We practiced these on our chalkboards and practiced them in our workbook.

We started a new unit for writing. We are working on pattern books.

For math, we finished unit 2. We did a measuring hunt where the students took math cubes and measured different things in our classroom. We also took our Unit 2 Assessment.

Our STEM activity was so much fun! The students had a blast with it!

We also did some guidance lessons this week. We looked at feelings and how to recognize them.

Margaret was our special person this week! We loved learning new things about Margaret and we enjoyed her Dad coming to read to us.

Micah was one of kindergarten's positive jaguar of the month! Way to go Micah!

We also had our Veteran's Day assembly. We learned what it means to be a Veteran and we honored some Veterans who came to help us celebrate.

Our police station is coming together! We are still looking for some items to bring it together.

STEM Activity

Tomorrow, November 9th, we are doing a STEM activity where the students are making parachutes using a dixie cup, plastic bag, and string.

I think the students will have lots of fun making this!

Please send your child to school with a SMALL toy. I want them to be able to fit this toy into the 5 oz dixie cup.

Scholastic Book Orders

I sent out Scholastic Book orders last week! Those orders are due on November 20th which is right before Thanksgiving Break!
